Laura Griffin

Artist Statement:

Laura works in finance by day and is a “maker” by night.

She is a self-taught artist with a passion for creating and a love for “explosions of color”.  Her eclectic style has lent itself to work in a number of art forms over the years. She is currently a certified Copic marker instructor, teaching monthly classes at the Jaycee Arts center. She also enjoys painting with acrylic and water-based media.

After returning from a painting retreat in Bali, Indonesia, she created a number of colorful, layered “intuitive” paintings. Each piece begins with layers of mark-making and no clear picture of where the painting will end up. This allows intuition to guide the way, opening up possibilities that would otherwise not be available. She loves to infuse bold color into her work, inspired by her travels to 40+ countries around the globe. From the graffiti-filled alleyways of London to the colorful night markets of Bangkok, she asks you to come along on her journey.

In addition to abstract art, Laura enjoys painting whimsical, mixed media “soul portraits” that incorporate inspirational, stamped mantras. These are a constant reminder for her to “dream out loud”.
